Bended Knee

Time hurtled by for all those years

With work and play and smiles and tears

Freedoms so simple were taken as given

The sheer happiness of daily earning a living

Then watching the girl grow into a woman

Excited to be part of all that was coming

But the past two years brought a step change

The curtailing of freedoms and life disarranged

Please may the New Year set us all free

My silent prayer on bended knee

Christmas again

It’s Christmas again

And a new variant

Feels just like last year

Goodwill all spent

Lockdown anxiety

Stifles my smile

The queue for a booster

Stretches a mile

But then I awake

From this recurring nightmare

I think of my daughter

Not here still there

I cross all my fingers

She’ll arrive with her smile

She’ll be here this Christmas

And make life worthwhile

Let’s hope it’s a good one!

Thank you for reading.
